If you're looking to decrease your digital footprint from the web, there are sites that will help. One new site is called JUSTDELETE.ME Tech Experts are buzzing about this new website. It provides consumers with a directory of sites and allows them to easily delete accounts on the web.
It's pretty easy to use, just find the website you want, click a tab and you'll be taken to the site's page that allows you to delete your account. There is also a color coded guide to let you know how easy or difficult the process will be. Green is easy, red is difficult.
We reached out to Derek Meister at Geek Squad about the site. "Sites like this are a good way to clean up those sites that you maybe had some friends that wanted you to get on and you got on, and never really used the account. This is a way to go out there and remove those accounts that you don't need," he says.
If you use the site, keep in mind, it's free and it's not actually deleting the information for you. "You do want to be careful of any site that promises to essentially erase you from the internet for a fee. Sites like JUSTDELETE.ME and others, what they are essentially, is a free resource that are pointing you to the tools that are on these social media sites," Meister explains.
The experts say if you are wondering what's out there about you on the web -- start with a Google Search of your name. But we really wanted to know, can you truly delete everything. "We like to say that the internet never forgets. It is true that you can go in and have for example, Facebook remove your account but it is also important to remember that these sites may not necessarily immediately remove your account," he says.
A great way to limit what's on the web about you, be mindful of what you post and think before you hit enter. A tech couple in the United Kingdom created the site after it was difficult for them to remove accounts with some major companies.
