FOUNTAIN INN, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Several agencies were on the scene of an investigation off Interstate 385 in the Fountain Inn area.
Troopers said a car headed north on I-385 did not have any tail lights and a trooper tried to stop the car near the 10-mile marker just after 6 a.m. The car did not stop and continued to drive erratically and swerving, according to Cpl. Bill Rhyne with the Highway Patrol.
Rhyne said a chase began and ended at exit 24 when the car tried to get off, but the trooper stopped the driver forcibly.
FOX Carolina crews at the scene said the car crashed into the woods down an embankment. Rhyne said two people were inside the car and were taken to the hospital, but he did not release any details about potential injuries.
Fountain Inn dispatchers said it was an officer-involved crash but couldn't say if an officer was hurt. The crash scene was cleared by 9 a.m.
Rhyne said the driver was Ashley Smith, 26, of Gray Court, and she was charged with driving under the influence first offense, driving under suspension fourth offense, failure to stop for blue lights, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamines, possession of a scheduled II drug, possession of scheduled IV drug, violation of ABC law, no seatbelt and defective lights.
He said the passenger was also arrested. Rhyne identified him as Mitchell Lyons, 28, of Laurens, and said he was charged with public intoxication, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamines, possession of a scheduled II drug, possession of scheduled IV drug, violation of ABC law and no seatbelt.
