Spartanburg police said a suitcase that was dropped off outside a downtown gas station that prompted road closures and the bomb squad's deployment only had personal belongings inside.

According to the Spartanburg Public Safety report, the large black suitcase was found standing upright next to a silver metal box outside of the QuikTrip at the corner of Pine and East St. John Street Monday about 11:50 a.m.

The woman who saw the bag get dropped off said she saw a man riding a moped stop in the road and leave the suitcase he was carrying by the box, according to the report. Police said the woman then called an officer she knew to report it because it seemed strange.

The report said when officers arrived, they saw the suitcase and it looked like it had already opened mail envelopes coming out of the front zippers.

The bomb squad was called in and deployed their robot to go through the bag, according to FOX Carolina crews at the scene.
