Henrico Police search for hotel burglary suspect

The search is on for a man accused of breaking into several Henrico hotel rooms, but it's how he got into those rooms that has people so worried. That bold burglar's weapon of choice happens to be a master key that let him into every room at the hotel.

It happened at the Comfort Suites in Glen Allen. That's in the 10600 block of Telegraph Road. The suspect was caught in action on camera.

"I think it's wrong," said Tookie Cluka who is concerned about crime.

Hotel staff says the burglar forced himself inside the comfort hotel, right behind the Virginia Center Commons Mall. He didn't show a weapon. Police say he simply located a master key card and eased into several guest rooms.

"How they got it, why they would do it, in this day and time you never know," Cluka said.

Apparently the suspect wasn't just snooping around, he was looking for the goods according to police. In this case, he actually made off with a laptop right out of one of the rooms.

It has people who frequent hotels on edge.

"There's a few other people that can have access to that room…maids, other employees. You don't know if they're of good nature," said Ted Seal.

"Whenever I go to a hotel if I have any valuables or anything like that or a wallet and we go to the beach or somewhere we lock it up just in case," said Paul Durrett.

NBC 12 spoke with the general manager, who did not want a formal interview, but did want to ensure the public his property is safe. He said he's added extra security and calls the incident a rare occurrence.

"When you go to a hotel you want to feel a little bit like you're on the safe side," Cluka added.

That's why police say they need your help making sure this suspected crook doesn't strike again.

"I hope they find him," Seal said.

As for the stolen laptop, hotel management says their insurance kicked into repay the customer for his loss.

The suspect is believed to be in his 20's, about 5'8 or 5'10 with a medium build. He was seen wearing a light brown shirt and blue jeans at the time of the crime. If you know anything, contact Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
