Before Stella, when I got sick I thought it was the worst thing in the world! I'd complain, mope around and be miserable. But now that Stella is here, I'd be sick every day of the year to spare her from not feeling good. I couldn't get that deal to work out, so I'm coping with a sick baby right now. And it's one of the biggest sources of stress I've ever experienced.
Stella has had a cough for the past couple of weeks. I figured she had picked up a little bug at daycare. She never ran a fever, so we just monitored her eating/sleeping and all seemed to be fine. I broke down and took her to the doc yesterday. She checked out just fine, and it gave me peace of mind that she wasn't getting pneumonia or bronchitis. I did get a little worried when she kept touching everything and putting her hand in her mouth. I'd do my best to keep her from touching surfaces, but she inevitably would get her little paws on something! 24 hours later… and now she has a full blown cold. Watery eyes, stopped up nose, less appetite, cough, and cranky attitude. No fever though, so we are hopeful that she is just battling another typical cold. My guess is that she picked it up at the doc or at daycare again.
Here's what I really need help with… How do I get her to sleep!? I've tried the bulb syringe, saline spray, and humidifier. I've had people on my facebook page recommend Vicks Vaporub, as well as keeping her upright. Do you have any suggestions or stories to share? I just want to make her comfortable. I'll pass along any suggestions to my husband who is with her tonight! Email me at Kendra.firstname.lastname@example.org!
