WALHALLA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A suspect wanted for kidnapping in Anderson County is in custody on Thursday, according to the Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw.

According to Crenshaw, they were contacted by U.S. Marshals who said Shannon Necoma Smith may be located in a home in Walhalla.

The sheriff said the location of the suspect was near James M. Brown Elementary School, so they placed the school on a precautionary "code yellow." According to the sheriff a "code yellow" means they lock the exterior doors and no one is allowed to come in or go out, but the school operates normally inside.

Smith was taken into custody without incident and the school resumed normal operations.

The U.S. Marshals Service said Smith also had two pending charges for kidnapping, two pending charges for criminal sexual conduct in the first degree and one pending charge of criminal domestic violence back in early September.

Marshals said Smith's arrest was part of a larger operation that aimed to capture fugitives in the Upstate.
