SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man charged for making bombs inside his Spartanburg County home remained in jail after a bond hearing Saturday morning.

Victor Wayne Garrett was charged after explosive materials were found at a house in Spartanburg on Friday, according to Tony Ivey of the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators had a search warrant for a house on Holly Springs Road when they found the explosive materials during the search, Ivey said.

Ivey said the hazardous material unit was called to the scene to remove the explosives.

The neighboring houses were evacuated Friday afternoon for the explosives to be destroyed, according to Ivey. Ivey said Hazmat technicians and the SC National Guard determined it was not safe to move the explosives to a new location, so they destroyed them there.

Garrett, 57, was charged with manufacturing explosives, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.

Garrett is currently being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.
