State police are investigating an incident that resulted in a car falling on top of a man who was attempting to make repairs to the vehicle on a roadside Monday.
Police said Heros Wegscheider and his wife pulled over along Goose Green Road near Minor Lane around 10:15 a.m. Monday after having issues with their vehicle's exhaust.
Wegscheider used a jack to lift up the vehicle so he could attempt to make some temporary repairs, according to police.
While Wegscheider was under the vehicle, police said the jack became dislodged, causing the vehicle to fall on top of him, trapping him underneath.
Wegscheider's wife was able to call 911, and responding firefighters, EMTs and a New Hartford constable were able to manually lift the vehicle high enough to remove Wegscheider from beneath it.
Wegscheider was taken by Lifestar helicopter to Hartford Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
