SENECA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A homicide case remains unsolved 10 years later after a man's body was found inside a car's trunk that had been parked at a Seneca bank for days.

Oconee County deputies said a car was parked at the Community First Bank on Sheep Farm Road for several days before deputies were called to investigate.

They said an employee called the sheriff's office on July 7, 2003 when they realized there was a foul smell coming from the trunk. Once investigators opened it up, they said they found the body of a man who had been shot several times wrapped in a sleeping bag.

A few days after the body was discovered, deputies said the man's family came to town from Atlanta to report their cousin, Adan Villa, missing.

Investigators were able to identify the victim as Villa using X-rays and medical records from a Georgia hospital, deputies said.

While many people were interviewed, so far deputies have not made any arrests in the case. They said they do not believe Villa was killed at the bank, but they have yet to locate the original crime scene.

"If this case is ever going to be solved, it will require the public's help," said Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw. "The most likely scenario is that this victim was murdered somewhere else and those involved in the case decided to bring the body to a bank parking lot in Oconee County."

Crenshaw said the story needs to be spread throughout the area, Georgia and beyond to help generate tips in the case.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.
