Mt Lemmon campsites remain closed despite end to govt shutdown

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Recreation Resource Management officials, who manages several campgrounds on Mount Lemmon, say although they are able to reopen campsites they are going to keep them closed.

Rose Canyon, Spencer Canyon and White Tail Group area on Mt. Lemmon were forced to close during the government shutdown. Now that the government is back up and running, Recreation Resource Management says they will keep them closed because the camping season in those areas ends October 31st. RRM says it would not be cost effective nor practical to reopen them for about two weeks than have to close them once again.

However, near the bottom of Mt. Lemmon there are campgrounds open, including Hitchcock and Gordon Hirabayashi Campgrounds. Molino Basin Campground will open October 25.
