COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

In an effort to keep up with the popular Powerball game and reward winners with larger jackpots, the Mega Millions game is launching its new version with Tuesday's drawing.

The South Carolina Education Lottery says the $1 Mega Millions ticket will now offer a $15 million jackpot, up from $12 million, with increased odds of 1 in 259 million.

Additionally, players who match five white ball numbers will now win $1 million instead of the previous $250,000. They could also win $5 million if they buy the Megaplier for an extra $1.

To increase the odds, Mega Millions' structure has changed with more numbers in the mix. The game now has 75 white balls instead of 56. It also has fewer Megaball choices, 15 down from 46.

With the changes, though higher tier prizes will have higher odds, the odds of winning lower prizes have improved. The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 15.

South Carolina lottery players must by at ticket for the new Mega Millions game by 10 p.m. Tuesday. The 11 p.m. drawing is for a $55 million jackpot.

In 2012, the Powerball game also revamped its look with $2 ticket prices to help raise jackpots higher faster.
