GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office announced on Tuesday that they will be participating in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

The event on Oct. 26 encourages people to bring in their unwanted or unused prescription drugs to be safely disposed.

"Preventing these readily available and potentially deadly drugs from being diverted and misused is something each and every one of us can do to help reduce the epidemic of prescription drug abuse that is harming so many in our community," said Sheriff Steve Mueller.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office at 312 East Frederick St. in Gaffney.

If you can't make it to the event, drop boxes are set up at the sheriff's office and the Blacksburg Police Department, where people can drop off unwanted drugs during normal business hours.
