Woman in custody after shooting, chase in Brevard

BREVARD, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Dispatchers said a woman is in custody after a shooting in Brevard on Tuesday evening.

Dispatchers said the incident began on Wood Duck Court in Brevard at 6 p.m.

The Transylvania County Sheriff's Office said they found a man with a gunshot wound to his back.

The victim's name is not being released at this time.  Deputies said he was flown to Mission Hospital, and is expected to recover from his injuries.

Sheriff David Mahoney said that deputies were able to identify a suspect immediately and began to look for her.

By 9 p.m. Jonalyn Lacy Nicholson, 29, was taken into custody on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

She is being held in the detention center under no bond.

"I would like to thank everyone involved in tonight's case," Sheriff Mahoney said. "The teamwork displayed led to a speedy and successful resolution. I would especially like to thank our partners in the media for their understanding and patience. This case was moving very quickly with details changing by the minute."
