PHOENIX (CBS5) -

One of the suspects in a Peoria home invasion was shot in the leg and was arrested after calling 911 for his injuries.

A couple was asleep in their home with their 5-year-old child when two men, ages 23 and 19, broke in armed with guns and allegedly assaulted the couple while demanding items in their home, according to Peoria police spokeswoman Amanda Jacinto.

The 28-year-old man living in the home was able to grab a gun from one of the suspects and shot him in the leg. Then the suspects ran out and drove off with a 26-year-old woman.

The couple flagged down a Peoria police officer just after 1 a.m. Thursday near 92nd Drive and Purdue Avenue.

The couple told police they had hung out with the two men a few times before.

One of the suspects called 911 for the gunshot injury, leading to their arrest.

Investigators are working to determine what led up to the home invasion and what happened inside the home.
