CLINTON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The man charged with attempted murder after Clinton police said he shot a woman in the head has been denied bond.

Sergio Pyles, 28, appeared before a judge in Laurens County Saturday morning. The judge denied bond due to the violent nature of the crime. The judge said a circuit judge would take over the case and will again determine if Pyles is eligible for bond on December 6.

Pyles was charged with attempted murder after he turned himself in on Friday night, police said.

The woman was shot in the head by Pyles, her child's father, according to Clinton police Chief Robin Morse.

Morse said the shooting happened at Westchase Apartments on Phillips Street, Friday.

The victim was identified as 24-year-old Doris Kingsborough.

A victim's advocate who appeared in court for the bond hearing Saturday said Kingsborough's condition had stabilized.

Kingsborough was flown to Spartanburg in critical condition, police said.

Morse said the man and woman had no prior history of domestic violence.

Police said Pyles' family brought him to the police station at about 7:45 p.m. on Friday after police had been searching for him since earlier in the day.
