Police arrest suspect after assault near Mechanicsville school bus stop

HANOVER, VA (WWBT) -

A man is under arrest after reports of an assault near a school bus stop in the Pebble Creek subdivision in Mechanicsville Monday morning.

The Hanover County Sheriff's Office arrested Michael Newton shortly after responding to the call at 7:30 a.m. in the 6300 block of Greystone Creek Road. Deputies found Newton after they say he fled in a vehicle. 

The victim suffered minor injuries from the assault.

Newton is charged with assault and battery, brandishing a firearm, and reckless driving (passing a stopped school bus). He is scheduled to be in court at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
