Tucson-Portland flights to take off through Alaska Airlines

Posted: Updated:

Nonstop flights from Portland, Ore. to Tucson International Airport will start up Friday for the first time in ten years.

Officials said the first flight will be greeted at 12:05 p.m. with brief ceremonies in the terminal and a traditional water archway salute on the taxiway.

The flights are offered on Alaska Airlines, aboard 70-seat CRJ-700 regional jets operated by SkyWest Airlines. Passengers will be offered free soft drinks and coffee, and for passengers 21 and older, complimentary wine and microbrews, according to airline officials.

The 2-hour and 50-minute flights are scheduled to depart Portland at 9:15 a.m. each day and will arrive at 12:05 p.m. Tucson time.

Flights from Tucson will depart at 12:35 p.m. Friday and Saturday and will arrive in Portland at 3:30 p.m. Sunday flights leave Tucson at 1:45 p.m. and land in Portland at 3:40 p.m.

Non-stop links to Portland were some of the most in-demand destinations without the service. Officials said Tucson has not had direct flights to Portland since 2003.
