ROEBUCK, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A child was hit by a car on Halloween night in Roebuck, troopers said.

Cpl. Bill Rhyne with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said he happened to be in the area trick-or-treating with his family when someone ran up to him to report the wreck.

He said he was able to assist at the crash, which happened about 7:45 p.m. on Thursday on Old Georgia Road near E. Blackstock Road.

Troopers said the child was taken to the hospital, but the child's condition was not released.

Troopers said the boy was crossing Old Georgia Road when he walked in of a car and the driver couldn't stop.

Rhyne said there were a lot of trick-or-treaters in the area at the time of the crash.

Because the boy ran out in front of the car, troopers said the driver would not be charged.
