FREDERICKSBURG, VA (WWBT) -

Fredericksburg police have arrested a man after a shooting and six-hour standoff at an apartment complex on Halloween.

Michael Bailey, 50, now faces a number of charges including malicious wounding and attempted malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer. He's being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

Bailey forced his way into another man's apartment at the Commons at Cowan Boulevard and shot him with a rifle around 8:40 p.m. Thursday, according to police. Police found the 52-year-old victim shot in the shoulder and back outside an apartment and took him to Mary Washington Hospital. He has since been released.

The shooting victim told police that he has known Bailey for about a year and a half and that they have had many disputes prior to yesterday's assault. The shooter used a 22 caliber rifle stolen from another resident's apartment.

Immediately after the shooting, Bailey went back to his apartment. Police say he fired a number of rounds inside and outside his apartment. At one point, police say Bailey went to his balcony and aimed his weapon at a Fredericksburg police officer who returned fire, according to police.

The Special Equipment and Tactical Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team were called to the scene. With the help of Virginia State Police and the Spotsylvania and Stafford Sheriff's Office they were able to take Bailey into custody around 2:20 a.m. Friday. He finally walked out of his apartment and surrendered nearly six hours after the shooting.

Bailey was taken to Mary Washington Hospital for minor injuries sustained during the incident.

He had multiple minor injuries to his hands and face when he was taken into custody, but it is

unclear if any of these injuries were the result of gunfire.
