GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The coroner is investigating a man's death after he was hit by a train near Highway 101 in Greer Friday morning.

Twenty-eight year-old Daniel Martin Sauvola was hit by a Norfolk Southern freight train around 3:35 a.m. but was not found until 7:20 a.m. by another person operating a southbound Norfolk Southern train.

Greer police said the train was stopped along the tracks at Highway 101 and East Poinsett Street for several hours, until it started moving again by 12:15 p.m.

Officials have not said if the train stopped on the tracks was the same train that hit the man.

Police said drivers in the area should take Cannon Avenue to Highway 14 as a detour.
