GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville Police said they are continuing to make their presence known on the Swamp Rabbit Trail after recent reports of crimes along the parts of the trail.

The agency organized the "Rally on the Rabbit" five kilometer race this morning.

The race began ended at County Square on University Ridge.

Greenville Police said they gave away free T-shirts to the first 200 runners who registered. Police said well over 200 people came out for the run.

Chief Terri Wilfong said police organized the race to introduce more people to the trail as a means of reducing crime.

"We feel that as more and more people begin using the trail and traffic gets heavier, it will help deter crime along the trail," Wilfong said. "There's no safer way to introduce people to the trail than to have them run with a bunch of police officers."
