GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Salvation Army of Greenville County needs teams to participate in the Battle of the Bells on Saturday, December 7 from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Any group that wants to ring bells at a red kettle location for the day can register, including neighborhood groups, church groups, sports teams, businesses and families. The goal is to try to raise more than any other group. The top three groups will receive traveling trophies, recognition at The Salvation Army's annual Christmas luncheon and bragging rights.

Last year, the Battle of the Bells raised $12,000 in one day. The Salvation Army says $0.82 of every $1.00 raised goes to social services, student tutoring, rehabilitation and family programming in Greenville County.

In a news release, Major Kent Davis, Area Commander for the Salvation Army, said, "The competition promises to be exciting, while every dollar raised will support our programs for the entire upcoming year.  This will not be your typical bell ringing day and we can't wait to see how each team gets into the Christmas spirit!  I invite our neighbors to participate in our second annual Battle of the Bells and make a difference in our community."

Groups must register by November 13.

To sign up for Battle of the Bells, call The Salvation Army at 864-232-9027 or visit the Facebook page for The Salvation Army of Greenville County.
