ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A plan to widen a road in Anderson County that once had tempers flaring is completed and open to drivers on Friday.

The East-West Parkway connector ribbon cutting was held at 11 a.m. to celebrate the road that will connect Highway 81 and Clemson Boulevard.

The connector was an Anderson Area Transportation Study project to connect 81 to 76 via a two-lane roadway and includes a paved 10-foot wide bicycle/pedestrian path.

Part of the parkway's plan was to relieve traffic on Concord Road, Brown Road, Reed Road and other local roads that were the only ways between the two major highways.

The TL Hanna High School band performed at the opening ceremony and were some of the first people to take an inaugural ride along the route in school buses.
