North Carolina state troopers have released the results of an initial investigation into the death of an Asheville police officer.

According to the report, Officer Robert Bingaman was traveling around 70 miles an hour towards the Jeff Bowen Bridge on Interstate 240 when he swerved to avoid traffic, hitting a guardrail.

The report then states that Bingaman's vehicle then rolled over the guardrail and hit the ground below the bridge, with the front facing towards the ground against a bridge pillar.

Asheville Police Chief William Anderson said Bingaman had been with the department for six years when the accident happened Oct. 29.
