Byrnes High football gets new protective helmets

DUNCAN, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Byrnes High School football players are getting a little more protection during practice.

Soft-shell helmet covers, called a Guardian Caps, were donated to the school from the Marcus Lattimore Foundation, the school announced on Monday.

About 300 teams across the nation, at all levels, use the helmet covers, including the University of South Carolina, according to a representative for the company.

The helmet covers are proven to reduce the impact of hits by 33 percent, the representative said.
