CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Some Upstate schools want to make sure students get home safely Thursday afternoon as thousands of college football fans head to Clemson.

Anderson School District Four and the School District of Pickens County announced they will dismiss elementary schools at 1 p.m. and middle and high schools at 2 p.m. Thursday.

The districts said the amount of traffic expected in the area for the Clemson vs. Georgia Tech game prompted the dismissal plan.

Anderson Four said after-school activities have been canceled to include GoalPost, but athletic events (practice and games) will still take place. In Pickens County, schools may continue with their planned after-school activities at the principals' discretion.

Even Clemson University is allowing students a little extra time to enjoy the game day activities. The school said university offices will close at noon and classes after 12:15 p.m. will be rescheduled or deferred.

Because of the number of students and staff on campus, game day parking lots will not open until 2 p.m., and fans are encouraged not to arrive on campus until parking is available.

Kickoff for the final Atlantic Coast Conference game of the season for the Tigers is set for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN. It is the first Thursday night home game in Death Valley in more than 10 years.

And though the game may not be over until late Thursday, classes will resume as normal Friday morning.
