DUNCAN, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg County deputies said they were investigating a strong-armed robbery in Duncan Friday morning.

They said the robbery happened at a Wells Fargo ATM near the intersection of East Main Street and Reidville Road about 6:30 a.m.

Employees from the McDonalds down the road went to drop off a deposit when they were confronted and one of them was assaulted by the robbery, according to Lt. Ivey with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.

Ivey said the man fled on food with the deposit. He said deputies searched for more than an hour with search dogs and the helicopter but were unable to find the robber.

Deputies had cleared the scene at the bank by 9 a.m. Ivey said they were following up on nearby surveillance and hopefully some tips to continue the investigation, but the victims were only able to describe the suspect as a man.

A spokesperson for Spartanburg District 5 schools said the sheriff's office notified them of the incident and were told there was no threat, so nearby schools were operating as normal.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
