PHOENIX (CBS5) -

People from across the country were watching in May when Jodi Arias was convicted in a Phoenix courtroom of killing her ex-lover. Now a judge has ruled live cameras will not be allowed in the retrial of the sentencing phase.

Court documents released Friday show a request to block live coverage of the sentencing phrase was granted. Only still images will be permitted from inside the Maricopa County courtroom.

The judge denied a request for a change in venue. The defense believed they would not get a fair trial in Maricopa County.

The judge also denied a motion to sequester the jury. Arias' request for individualized voir dire by counsel filed on Sept. 12, was also denied. Had the motion passed, Arias' counsel would have been able to give preliminary examinations of prospective jurors to determine if they're impartial.

Just last month, Arias asked the judge in her case to fire her lead defense attorney, Kirk Nurmi. In a 12-page handwritten letter, Arias asked the judge in the case to replace Nurmi for the remainder of the proceedings. However, that motion was denied.

In the letter, Arias tells the judge that she has "not spoken to him since May 23, 2013." She said she does not have a "continuing interactive dialogue" with him.

Arias goes on to say that Nurmi has "little to no tolerance for my emotional and psychological shortcomings" and that his "financial interest is greater than my legal interest."

Arias said in the letter Nurmi "seems determined to keep me in the dark about developments in the case, offering clipped retorts in response to my questions regarding my situation."

In May, a jury convicted Arias of first-degree murder for killing her on-again, off-again boyfriend Travis Alexander.

That same jury deadlocked during the sentencing phase.
