BUFFALO, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Stewart Black's prize possession was a box filled with his father's war medals and decorations.

His dad, Rob Black, served for nearly three decades in the Army including several tours in Germany.

When Stewart Black died recently of lung cancer he passed the medals on to his fiancée Elaine Horne.

"He loved them and he loved his father," said Horne.

On Monday, Horne said someone broke into her home on South Street in the Buffalo community and stole Black's guitar and the box with his father's medals in it.

"By me having those, I had a part of his family' memories," said Horne.

Horne said the thieves busted out the window of her back door to get in. She said she isn't sure why the thieves took the medals, whose only real value she says is sentimental.

Horne says she is willing to forgive whoever took the medals and not press charges if they are returned.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact the Union County Sheriff's Office.
