GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

For a Greenwood 7-year-old, life consists of needles, PICC lines and pain; but a New York marathon runner has given him a new reason to smile.

Dave Nazaroff ran the New York City Marathon earlier this month in honor of Noah Estes, a boy in Greenwood who battles mitochondrial encephalitis, a cellular disorder that cost him the use of his legs.

Nazaroff runs the organization Ride to Give, a nonprofit charity that helps sick children.

Noah said Nazaroff is "the bestest guy in the world."

"Hey Noah, it's Dave!" said the runner as he took a video of himself running the marathon and posted it to Facebook. "I'm at mile 5 1/2 here thinking about you, it's going slow - you're with me, you're in my heart baby!"

Noah's parents said those videos lit up their son's face.

"The whole time I was just thinking about him, getting me through the 26 miles, and it inspires me," Nazaroff told FOX Carolina.

Nazaroff has helped children throughout the country, including most notably Tripp Halstead, the Atlanta boy who suffered a traumatic brain injury last year.

The organization raised money to buy the Estes family a bus to help them get their eight children around easier.

After the marathon, Nazaroff mailed his medal to Noah. He never takes it off.

"Honestly, seeing the medal around Noah's neck means more to me than the fact that we're getting a wheelchair vehicle for him," said Kate Estes, Noah's mother. "Knowing that this man would run a race like that for a little boy that will never run again, was just an incredible moving thing."
