EASLEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Easley police said they were called to the TD Bank on U.S. 123 at 9:28 a.m. when a masked man entered the bank armed with a revolver.

Police said the man pointed a gun, demanded money and fled on foot towards Dayton School Road.

School district officials said the robbery prompted a lockdown at Forest Acres Elementary in Easley.

John Eby, spokesperson for School District of Pickens County, said the school went on lockdown about 9:50 a.m. He said classes were going on as normal, but no one would be allowed in or out of the school while on lockdown.

Police at the scene said three employees and two customers were inside the bank at the time, but officers were able to get there quickly, so the robber ran out the back of the bank and away from Calhoun Memorial Highway. Police are still searching for the man.

Eby said at 10:40 a.m., police notified school officials that they were confident the lockdown could be lifted.

As a precaution, students will be kept inside throughout the remainder of the day, including during recess, Eby said. School dismissal will operate as normal.

Principal Darian Byrd released the following statement to parents about the lockdown:

"At 9:50 this morning we received word that a local bank had been robbed and suspects were on foot near the Rock Springs area. The Easley PD felt confident that they had the area contained, but as a precaution I decided to place Forest Acres under lockdown at that time.

"At 10:40, Easley PD notified me as they again felt confident that we could lift the lockdown. To be cautious, we are going to keep students inside throughout the remainder of the day. We will operate dismissal as normal.

"Thank you all for your understanding this morning. Our most important role as educators is to keep everyone safe. All children are safe and remained very calm and cooperative this morning. I am very proud of our students."

FOX Carolina's crew at the scene said the FBI was also at the bank. Police said the FBI is assisting with the investigation.

The robber is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Easley police or 911.
