SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Firefighters said they were called to a Simpsonville home Friday to fight a blaze after a passer-by spotted flames flying from the roof.

The fire was reported at a home on Lakeview Terrace and firefighters said they saw heavy smoke as they arrived.

Fountain Inn Fire Lt. Russell Alexander said they were called to the blaze and were assisted by firefighters from Simpsonville and Clear Spring fire departments. He said the fire appears to have been contained mostly to the attic area.

Alexander said it appears no one was home when the fire broke out, but the Red Cross has been called in to help the family.

He said they are looking for the family's pets, but are hopeful they are just hiding because the air inside the home was mostly clear, since the fire was contained to mostly the attic area.

Alexander said they are thankful everyone was OK and the homeowner arrived shortly after crews arrived at the scene.
