Monday afternoon, drivers and shoppers in Travelers Rest were doing some last-minute preparations for what's expected to be a blast of messy weather. They got their cars ready for the road and made sure their refrigerators were stocked.
Car experts at Travelers Rest Quick Lube explained that this time of year is good for maintenance, with things like checking batteries, alternator and filling anti-freeze fluids.
And what says ice threat more than empty grocery store shelves? Lots of folks were out for bread and milk at the Travelers Rest Bi-Lo.
South Carolina's Department of Transportation hadn't sent its crews out in South Carolina yet. They're waiting for ice to hit the roads before they treat them so as not to waste pre-treatment salt.
A warning to drivers, though - just because one area may have wet roads doesn't mean that slick icy spots won't be around the bend or over the bridge.
"I think most cars now have a temperature sensor on them. Be mindful of that temperature sensor. If it gets close to freezing, be very mindful of what you're riding on, especially if it's wet. It can be wet and 34 and bridges could be frozen," said Jason Allison with SC DOT.
