GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

As rain and winter storms wallop the East Coast on Wednesday, many travelers fear the busiest travel day of the year may take more than a day.

But as snow moved through parts of the western Carolinas, most flights have stayed on time at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport.

Passengers arrived at GSP early Wednesday to catch flights to their holiday destinations and most were thankful to discover their trips were on time. Almost all of the arrivals to the Upstate are on-time too, except for a canceled flight from Newark and a delayed flight from New York's LaGuardia Airport.

All departures were on time as well, except from a delayed flight coming in from Fort Lauderdale that was set to return to the southeast Florida city.

Asheville Regional Airport was also reporting on-time departures and arrivals Wednesday, except for two round-trip delayed flights to Atlanta and Charlotte.

At the world's busiest airport on the busiest travel day of the year, the majority of passengers at Harsfield-Jackson airport say they were not having any trouble making their flights on time.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Charlotte Douglas International Airport is feeling the crunch of lost parking spaces at the airport, causing traffic jams and slow-moving lines of cars in the arrival area of the airport.

While the situation remains OK for now, flights could become delayed as the day progresses at some of the nation's busiest airports across the East Coast continue to face the effects of the winter storm.

GSP spokesperson Rosylin Weston has some advice for those travelers who may get stuck en route to their destination.

"The best thing to do is to pack some patience, double check to ensure what can and cannot go into your carry on bag. As well as a bag that you are checking and call the airline, go online and specific information about your flight," Weston said.
