PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS (RNN) - Tennessee attempted to close a 15-point deficit in the final minutes of the game but couldn't come through, losing to University of Texas El Paso 78-70 in the Battle 4 Atlantis.

The Vols (3-2) took an early lead in the game and held on for almost seven minutes before the Miners (4-2) took over. Tennessee would grab a 1-point lead with five minutes left in the first half, but UTEP would go on to outscore the Vols 36-28 at the break. The Miners never lost their lead in the second half, dominating by as much as 15. Tennessee would only get as close as eight points before the game ended.

Jordan McRae led the Vols with 22 points, two steals and one block.

Tennessee will now play Xavier, who lost to No. 23 Iowa in overtime in their first game of the Battle 4 Atlantis, on Friday, Nov. 29. The Vols played Xavier in their first game of the season, losing to the Musketeers 67-63.
