Tigers, Gamecocks set to collide in Columbia

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

This year's Palmetto State showdown with the No. 6 Tigers will determine whether the No. 10 Gamecocks and their fans can gloat for a fifth straight year.

It'll also have a major effect on the BCS bowl games. Both teams have a shot at making one.

It's the first time in more than a 110 years that both teams are in the top 10.

It will be the final game on South Carolina soil for two standout quarterbacks. Gamecocks quarterback Connor Shaw has never lost to Clemson.

And Tigers quarterback Tajh Boyd has never beaten USC.

This Clemson senior class, especially Boyd, has tallied a list of records. But they've all stated that a win over the Gamecocks would fill that last void.

It may likely be the last game for Gamecocks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, and Tigers wide receiver Sammy Watkins. Both juniors are projected to be top 10 NFL draft picks. Many have Clowney tabbed as the best NFL prospect in college football.

The Gamecocks are still in the hunt for an SEC Championship too. If Texas A&M beats Missouri tomorrow night, the Gamecocks will win the East Division and book their trip to the championship game in Atlanta. Their matchup with Clemson won't affect their conference chances.

A win against South Carolina would make the Tigers are a favorite for a BCS bowl berth.

Clowney's pledged to never lose to Clemson and the Gamecocks have never beaten the Tigers five straight times.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Saturday from Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia.
