SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg police officers on patrol following an attempted armed robbery and shooting at an ATM said they chased after a suspicious vehicle, who tried to crash into them.

Officers pulled into the Bi-Lo parking lot on Cedar Springs Road about 10:30 p.m. Saturday where they saw a suspicious vehicle in sight of the ATM, according to the police report.

When officers approached the vehicle, they said the driver got out of the car, so they got out of their patrol car and approached his vehicle, but the man got back inside and drove off, police said.

Police said they followed the driver and as they caught up to him, he slammed on his breaks, forcing their patrol car to crash into the suspect's Honda.

The pursuit continued through the area and the driver slammed on his breaks a second time, but officers swerved to his side, so he tried to hit them again, but officers were able to stop, according to the report. Police said he tried to hit the patrol car multiple times during the chase.

Police said the man continued on before eventually stopping along Nebo Street and running away on foot. They said there were able to catch up to him and take him to the ground.

When they searched the man, identified as 43-year-old Jackie Henderson, and his car, police said they found 3 grams of cocaine and a stolen gun.

Henderson was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and battery, failure to stop for blue lights, driving under suspension, possession of a firearm by a felon, receiving stolen goods, and a drug charge, according to the jail's website.
