SENECA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Oconee County deputies said whoever tried to set a home on fire during the holiday weekend may have tried to cover up a burglary.

Firefighters and deputies were called to the Ames Street home in Utica Mill Hill area near Seneca about 7 a.m. on Thanksgiving, and they discovered that someone tried to set the stove area on fire.

As they investigated, deputies said more than $10,000 worth of belongings were stolen from the home.

Deputies have yet to determine a motive for the attempted arson unless it was an attempt to cover up the burglary. The investigation into both crimes is ongoing.

Anyone who saw something or has information on either case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
