GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Gas prices fell in Greenville and across the nation over the Thanksgiving holiday, but still haven't made up for the recent rise in prices.

The average retail price for a gallon of gasoline in Greenville fell 2.7 cents in the past week. The almost 3-cent drop brought the average price down to $3.08 per gallon.

The decline in price over the last week has not made up for the previous month's rise in prices though. The average price on Dec. 1 was still almost 5 cents per gallon higher than a month ago, according to Gasbuddy.

The national average fell 1.4 cents per gallon, bringing the average price down to $3.25 cents, according to GasBuddy.

The national average went down 12.8 cents per gallon during the last month and it is 24.2 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, GasBuddy said.

"With the Thanksgiving behind us it appears that a nominal decline in retail gasoline prices will ring in the first week of December for most parts of the country," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Gregg Laskoski.

"With the government's report of healthy fuel inventories and U.S. refinery output reaching its highest level since early October, the savings at the pump is coming just in time," Laskoski added.
