Christmas tree for Alexis Murphy where she was last seen

NELSON, VA (WWBT) -

Four months ago Nelson County teen Alexis Murphy seemingly vanished. Tuesday night, her family and friends, tearfully marked that painful milestone.

Family and friends gathered at that exact gas station off Route 29 to light a Christmas tree adorned with pink ribbons and lights for Murphy.

The 17-year old was last seen August third, at the Liberty Gas Station in Lovingston. Her image was caught on surveillance video.

The Christmas tree will now be a constant reminder to everyone driving by that Alexis is still somewhere out there.

The holidays have forever changed for Murphy's mother - who, on Thanksgiving, says she still made her daughter's favorite German potato salad.

"Just sitting there and not seeing her there was hard," said Murphy's mother, Laura Murphy.

The brightly decorated tree didn't bring joy but sadness to her family.

"I think about her in everything that I do (it doesn't get easier) no, how can it, it's like being stuck in time," said Murphy's great aunt, Trina Murphy.

"It's hard, you can't replace them," said Laura Murphy.

This mother's pain has been shared by many, but 30 minutes away from the gas station, there now is another family who knows exactly what Alexis's mother went through in August.

"Tell them just to keep their hope keep their faith, and we are praying for them dearly, because I know how she's feeling right now, and we are praying for them," said Laura Murphy.

A missing girl from Lynchburg has now made headlines just like Alexis once did.

"I cried, I cried, I broke down," said Laura Murphy.

18-year-old Jamisha Gilbert was last seen Friday. The two family's have been in contact.

"If you haven't gone through this, you have no idea what it's like...I know what they're going through now…I'm here for them," said Trina Murphy.

Gilbert's YouTube video she made of herself is now going viral.

"It just brought cold chills, I just watched her YouTube video last night and I just cried, because here's another family that's going to go through the same hell," said Trina Murphy.

Authorities aren't giving up hope in finding Alexis and now Jamisha. No information is too small, if you know something that can help investigators; they want to hear from you.
