ELOY, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Police have identified the two skydivers who died Tuesday as the result of a midair collision and fall during a jump with a large group of parachutists.

According to the Eloy Police Department, 40-year-old Keiron O'Rourke of the United Kingdom and 51-year-old Bernd Schmehl of Germany collided at an altitude of about 200 to 300 feet. The collision caused their parachute canopies to collapse, and they fell to the ground.

O'Rourke was taken by ambulance to the Casa Grande Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Schmehl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both were considered experienced skydivers, police say. O'Rourke logged 849 jumps, 100 in the past six months. Schmehl logged 1,707, 80 in the past six months.

The Pinal County Medical Examiner's office is performing autopsies on the victims.

The Federal Aviation Administration and Eloy Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the accident.

Meanwhile today, a large group of skydivers performed a tribute jump today in memory of two skydivers.

O'Rourke and Schmehl were jumping as part of a group of 200 men and women at Skydive Arizona, 4900 N. Taylor St. in Eloy, AZ.  The accident happened just before 5 p.m.  Tucson News Now has learned that the group was trying to set a world record.

One other person was injured Tuesday, but his injuries are not related to the collision. According to reports he had a hard landing, and is doing OK.
