GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The scars are visible and painful for 7-year-old Ariana Marks when they're touched.

"Right here and right there and they were pulling my hair," Marks said as she pointed to the scars. "The dogs start running, and then I was trying to climb over the fence and they pulled me down and started biting me."

According to an incident report, investigators with Gaffney Police said two pit bulls attacked her as she and her grandfather walked down Mary Bramlett Alley in Gaffney on Saturday.

"They were dragging me," she said.

Her mother, Ramona Davidson, said Ariana has more than 30 stitches including staples in her head.

"When I got to the hospital and I saw her, I mean, that really tore my nerves up," Davidson said.

Davidson said doctors told her Ariana will be alright.

"I think physically, maybe on the outside, but as far as scar-wise, mentally and emotionally, she's going to be scarred for the rest of her life," Davidson said.

Investigators said the two pit bulls came from an area on Beech Street and attacked the girl on Mary Bramlett Avenue.

"One of them had her by leg. One of them had her by the head, just jerking her to pieces," Ed Spencer said.

He's a contractor with Spencer Roofing and Remodeling and happened to be working on a roof nearby and heard Ariana's screams.

"They started their kill, and they were going to finish it," Spencer said.

He and another man helped Ariana by fighting off the dogs. Spencer said when he grabbed little girl, she was bloody and badly hurt.

"Blood all over my jacket and soaked through to my shirt," Spencer said.

However, he said the dogs wouldn't stop the attack until police got there and shot the dogs with a Taser. Investigators said one dog ran away but was later caught by an animal control officer.

Police said when the dogs were being taken away, the dogs' owner, Terrill Ramsey Jr., became loud and boisterous. They arrested him and charged him with disorderly conduct and animals running at large.

"We were just luckily at the right place at the right time," Spencer said.

Ramsey said his dogs didn't do anything wrong and they were improperly taken away. He said he plans to get them back.

As of Wednesday, both dogs were being held at the Cherokee County Animal Shelter.
