Unoccupied car submerged in lake (FOX Carolina)
BEREA, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Newly acquired surveillance video from a restaurant along the shore of Lake Saluda shows a car speeding toward the lake and a driver leaping out of the vehicle and running off just before it enters the water.
The video was provided by the owners of Saluda Lake Landing off of Motor Boat Club Road.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. They say the car in the video had been reported stolen from their county Friday. They say they do have a person of interest in the case at this time and they have been able to notify the owner of what happened to the vehicle.
The vehicle will be transported back to Polk County.
Greenville deputies said a neighbor called in the report of a submerged vehicle in Lake Saluda at 9:20 p.m. on Friday.
Deputies said when they arrived on scene, they located a red sedan not far from the Saluda Lake Landing's parking lot.
Dive teams were deployed to ensure there was no one inside and confirmed the vehicle was unoccupied.
Deputies said the car was pulled from the lake at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday.
No other details have been released.
