Hundreds turn out to support home for homeless women and children

Posted: Updated:

The founders of a new nonprofit home for homeless women and their children hosted their first annual fundraiser Friday night.

More than 200 people turned out to the first annual Christina's House Christmas Ball at the Springfield Marriott Hotel.

The event will go toward helping to purchase a large Victorian home in Springfield that will be refinished and house homeless women and their families.

Those women will live with their kids for two years and get access to education.

Christina's House Director Shannon Mumblo says the outpouring of support they've seen from the community has been overwhelming.

"That is significant because the earlier we buy the house, the earlier we are able to open and the earlier we are actually able to help the women and children who need it," Mumblo said.

They're hoping to open Christina's House in the spring.

CBS 3 Springfield was a proud sponsor of the event as well as the Springfield Police Department.
