GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A suspect faces attempted murder charges and two Greenville Police officers are on administrative leave as the State Law Enforcement Division investigates an officer-involved shooting outside a motel.

Two vice officers were investigating a narcotics complaint at the Comfort Inn on Laurens Road just after 10 p.m. Saturday, according to public information officer Johnathan Bragg.

Bragg said the officers approached a suspicious vehicle, which nearly hit two pedestrians and jumped a curb before accelerating toward the officers.

One of the officers fired his weapon at the vehicle as it sped toward them, Bragg said.

The vehicle fled the scene without injuring the officers, according to Bragg. He said the driver was taken into custody just after 4 a.m. Sunday with assistance from the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

Bragg identified the suspect as Carlton Staggs, 22. Bragg said Staggs suffered from gunshot wounds that officers believe resulted from the shooting outside the motel. The injuries were not life-threatening.

Bragg also said police identified a passenger who was riding in the car with Staggs at the time he almost hit police. Bragg said the woman went in to the police station for an interview on Monday night.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Greenville Police Tip Line at 864-271-GCPD or Greenville Crime Stoppers at 864-23-CRIME.
