GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Gas prices are down in Greenville but still hovering over the $3 mark this week, according to the gas price website GasBuddy.com.

The site said that prices fell about 3 cents in the area the previous week, bringing the average price down to $3.04.

The average price for a gallon of gas has stayed steady this week, falling less than 1 cent, the site said.

"The National Weather Service says this week begins with much of California under a 'hard freeze warning' and separate storm systems tracking across the Great Lakes region and from the Gulf Coast to the northeast, bringing snow, sleet and freezing rain from the Lower Mississippi River Valley northeastward to New England,' said Gregg Laskoski, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.

"Under conditions like that, consumer demand usually declines and that often results in a nominal decrease in retail gas prices," Laskoski added. "That may be what lies ahead this week.".
