ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Iva man was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Tuesday for killing his wife and then fleeing to Pennsylvania.

Jonathan Craig Roe pleaded guilty to the murder of his wife, who was found dead on Jan. 6.

After the murder, Roe left the couple's Lee Street home and drove to Lower Allen Township, PA, where he called 911 and said he killed his wife.

Lower Allen Township police called Iva police to report what Roe told them, and when police responded to the home Sunday night, they said they found the body of Sonja Roe, 48. Police said she was shot several times.

"By his own admission, Jonathan Craig Roe is a violent man," stated solicitor Chrissy Adams. "Nothing the justice system does can bring Sonja Roe back to her family but hopefully, her family can begin to heal, knowing that her killer will be behind bars for the next 40 years."
