ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

An Asheville man has been charged after a woman was beaten and sexually assaulted by a man claiming to be a "mob boss," according to Sgt. Dave Romick of the Asheville Police Department.

Romick said that on Dec. 7 a woman was followed after getting off a bus, then beaten and sexually assaulted in West Asheville. He said Nicholas Nacoleon Harding, 43, was found nearby and arrested.

Harding told the victim he was a "mob boss" during the attack and threatened to have the woman killed, according to Romick.

"We do not believe in any way shape or form that this guy is in any way affiliated with the Mafia or any type of organized crime," said Romick. "We believe this is a scare tactic or a line this guy is using to terrorize his victims."

The Asheville Police Department has since been able to connect Harding with three other incidents in which they said he also claimed he was a "mob boss."

According to arrest reports provided by the police department, Harding was charged with assault by strangulation, assault on a female, first-degree sexual offense and first-degree kidnapping.

He also faces additional assault and threat charges after another victim came forward to Asheville police, who are working with police in the Charlotte area trying to find more victims. Harding came to Asheville from Charlotte in September, and police believe he used the same threat in other incidents.

Romick said there is no need to fear Mafia repercussions for helping the police in their investigation.

The Asheville Police Department is asking anyone who has had recent contact with Harding to call Detective Scott Piper at 828-271-6136 or the Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1110.
