Deputy's car run over after driver accidentally reverses during stop

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A second female deputy was involved in a wreck on Thursday night after a woman being pulled over accidentally reversed into the deputy's vehicle, Lt. Tim Ridgeway of the Greenville County Sheriff's Office told FOX Carolina. 

Ridgeway said the officer pulled over the 80-year-old driver on Wade Hampton Blvd. at about 7:30 p.m., who appeared to be confused. The deputy told the woman to turn off her car but the woman put it in reverse and hit the gas, smashing the deputy's car, he said. 

The deputy was standing next to the driver's window when it was put in reverse, Ridgeway said.

Ridgeway said the deputy and the driver are both okay.

The other accident involving a Greenville County deputy that was pinned between a car and a trailer on Thursday night. The officer was taken to the hospital with a knee injury, according to Ridgeway.
