More rain and some winter weather possible this weekend

GREENVILLE, SC (AP) -

The worst of the rain moved out of our area Saturday afternoon, according to Fox Carolina Meteorologist Ted Phaeton.

"The heaviest rain is behind us as the low pressure system continues to advance to the Northeast," Phaeton said. "We will, however, still hold on to the chance of light rain and drizzle into the evening hours."

Phaeton said winds will be calm across the Upstate, with fog developing overnight as temperatures dip into the upper 30s.

Phaeton said the mountains we see a slightly different pattern.

"Lingering moisture in to the overnight hours will carry those rain chances as well," he said. "With temperatures falling into the lower 30s we can expect to see that rain transition over to sleet, snow and freezing rain in some spots. A small amount of ice accumulation can be expected overnight which can cause roadways to become slippery."

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Madison, Yancey, Swain, Haywood and Graham counties. Phaeton advised drivers to use caution when traveling on roadways in these areas overnight as visibility can be limited and roadways may be icy.

"We should see the wintry mix transition back to rain as we approach the late morning hours and dry out by early afternoon," Phaeton added.

Temperatures will rebound back into the 50s on Sunday in the Upstate and winds will be light under mostly sunny skies, Phaeton said. For the mountains, Phaeton said the wet weather will stick around until the late morning before giving way to partly cloudy skies. Winds will be breezy with gust as high as 25 miles per hour, he said.
